community projects
Landscapes designed for everyone.
Landscapes are meant to be experienced. So it’s a special privelege to help create beautiful, functional public spaces that are open for everyone to enjoy. These projects are collaborative efforts designed to meet the needs of a broad and diverse community. It’s what makes them uniquely challenging — and all the more rewarding.
Case study
Ashland Japanese Garden
The opportunity to create an authentic Japanese Garden in the heart of Ashland’s Lithia Park was a dream come true. We collaborated with Japanese Garden Specialty, its owner Toru Tanaka, and Ashland Parks and Recreation to create a functional public space that captures the natural beauty and quiet simplicity of Japanese design.

The Children’s Museum of Southern Oregon
Imagine a world designed just for kids — to explore, play, and learn. The Children’s Museum’s Outdoor Adventure Exhibit includes spaces for climbing and biking, playable sand and water features, an amphitheatre, a treehouse, and more — all made with kid-friendly materials and layouts that small humans can enjoy safely.
"I was so taken with the beauty of the new Ashland Japanese Garden that I became a docent for the garden. At the same time I had begun working with Solid Ground Landscape to design my small Japanese garden for my Ashland home. While discussing my design with Solid Ground, I learned they were working with Toru Tanaka on the installation of the Ashland Japanese Garden. With expert plant selection and remarkable stonework, Solid Ground created a garden for me that has become my tranquil retreat for peaceful contemplation. I feel so fortunate to have my private space with the essence of a true Japanese garden."
